You hear all about intention setting for the new year. It’s all the rage. But how do you actually DO it? How do you set intentions for the new year, which move you forward in your life and closer to your best version of yourself? Where do you begin?
That’s what I’m going to answer in this blogpost!
I spent my Christmas break geeking out on my future. This is a practice I’ve had for the last 8 years that has enabled me to grow my business, start a new business, connect deeper and enjoy “Epic Shredventures” with my family, transform my physical, mental, and emotional health, and even helped me attract the most amazing friends.
That is the power of intention, Rockstar. So let’s get to it.
I have researched lots of intention setting practices and rituals over the years, and have found many valuable & many ineffective methods. That being said, I created this blog for the beginner intention- setter, so I wanted a method that was super easy, super impactful, and super clear.
I recently listened to a Rachel Hollis podcast that outlined an awesome method, so I decided to share it with you! Grab a journal and follow these 5 steps to set your intentions for the New Year ahead:
STEP 1: CHOOSE A WORD OR INTENTION OF THE YEAR
The first thing you want to do is to choose a specific word or intention for the year ahead. When you choose it, be sure that it describes what you either want in your life or who you want to become.
Be careful with the word you choose. Choose a high vibration word that echoes what you want. This word becomes your compass to everything else, so make it powerful & positive. If it doesn’t positively impact your emotional state when you hear it, it’s not the right word. Keep searching.
STEP 2: ASK “WHAT DO I NEED TO SUBTRACT”?
What in your life needs to go? Specifically, what needs to go in order for you to live out your word of the year? What isn’t serving you anymore? What is holding you back from becoming the best version of yourself?
STEP 3: ASK WHAT DO I NEED TO MULTIPLY?
What is working in your life to bring you closer to your intention? What happens if you multiply that? Multiplying doesn’t have anything to do with “adding” more to your plate. It’s simply asking the question, “What do I need to ramp up that is working for me right now?”
STEP 4: ASK WHAT DO I NEED TO DIVIDE?
When she talks about “division”, Hollis is talking about leverage. What can you delegate to something or someone else, so that it gets done, but you’re not the one doing it?
Maybe it’s a house cleaner, or a babysitter, or an assistant, an intern, or maybe you need to ask Baby Daddy to take the kids, so you can go out with the girls once a month. What can you delegate that will get you closer to your word/ intention of the year?
STEP 5: ASK WHAT DO YOU NEED TO ADD?
She saves this one for last, because we tend to think that NY resolutions or intentions involve adding a ton to our already full plates. When it comes to adding, I would keep this list REAL short.
Think of 1-3 things you could add. Maybe a morning routine, reading _ personal growth books, or a weekly yoga class. What could you add that would bring you closer to your word/ intention of the year?
So there you have it: How to set intentions in 5 steps! This practice is so powerful. I know it has the power to tranform your year.
I encourage you to take some time this week, if you haven’t already and focus on YOU. Turn the TV off, put your phone on DND, get alone and quiet, light a candle, do a 15 minute meditation, and get into your journal.
I can’t wait to see what you manifest! Peace, Love, & Good Vibes,
Kommentare
